These guidelines aim at sharing experiences in building community-based tourism models implemented in Bac Ninh under the framework of “Community tourism in traditional craft villages in Bac Ninh” project to improve people’s lives in other regions across the country.

Due to the impact of the global economic crisis, the market demand for handicrafts decreased, causing families in rural craft villages to close their production and look for other jobs in big cities. This exacerbated social problems in urban areas, increased social stratification, and lost cohesion of traditional rural Vietnamese communities.

In this context, the Asia Foundation supported and coordinated with the Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute Research Institute (VIRI) to implement the project “Community tourism in traditional craft villages in Bac Ninh”.

The project supports three traditional craft villages in Bac Ninh to build and effectively manage a CBT model to benefit local poor communities through tourism services while minimizing negative impacts, especially especially the impacts on the environment and local traditional culture.
